Committees Overview
Getting involved with one or more of our committees is a great way to get to know others and invest in yourself and the Chapter.
Anniversary/Executive Night
The Anniversary/Executive Night Committee is responsible for planning and coordinating the annual Anniversary/Executive Night Banquet in April.
Friendship/Cheer
Friendship/Cheer Coordinator is responsible for sending out Chapter 21 Birthday, Get Well and NAWIC Anniversary Cards. This committee will also follow up with the person who is ill with a phone call or visit and report to the Website and Newsletter Coordinator to update the membership on her progress.
Golf Tournament
The Golf Tournament Committee is responsible for planning the Annual Golf Tournament, including finding a course, acquiring sponsorships, overseeing registration and gathering donations for the raffle opportunity drawing/silent auction.
Professional Development and Education (PDE)
Professional Development and Education (PDE) is responsible for preparing the monthly notice and transmits to members, as well as scheduling monthly speakers and/or events. This committee is a monthly commitment. Specific duties of the committee can be divided between committee members. Remember the core of NAWIC’s purpose is to develop members professionally and provide education opportunities to support and enhance their careers in construction.
Social Media
Social Media Committee is responsible for the management of our social media platforms. This committee is for the posting of chapter programs and events on Facebook, LinkedIn or Instagram.
Block Kids Building Contest
The Block Kids Committee is responsible for coordinating and planning the annual Block Kids Building Contest, which promotes construction awareness in elementary school children. This committee meets multiple times a year. This event is normally held anytime between October and February.
Design Drafting Competition
The Design Drafting Committee is responsible for coordinating and distributing the drafting contest to high schools, reviewing the entries, and deciding on the winners. This committee normally meets two to three times a year. Winners are typically announced at the Anniversary/Executive Night in April.
Hospitality, Attendance, and Welcome Desk
The Hospitality, Attendance, and Welcome Desk Committee is responsible for arranging a meeting place for each month’s Chapter meeting, collecting money at meetings, and signing-in and greets members and guests at meetings. This committee is a monthly commitment. Specific duties of the committee can be divided between committee members.
Membership
Membership Committee is responsible for following-up with prospective members, preparing a prospective membership brochure once a year, preparing the roster of the members, coordinating membership promotions, and following-up with members who missed the meeting. This committee is a monthly commitment. Specific duties of the committee can be divided between committee members.
Ways and Means/Fundraising
Ways and Means/Fundraising Committee is responsible for raising non-dues income for the support of chapter activities, developing ways to raise money such as raffles at meetings, overseeing and schedules fundraisers, and having a fundraiser table at conferences. This committee is a monthly commitment. Specific duties of the committee can be divided between committee members.
Camp NAWIC San Diego
Camp NAWIC San Diego is a subcommittee of the Mentoring Committee. This is an intensive commitment requiring year-round participation to plan this week-long event typically held in June. Members will follow the guidelines outlined by the Chair and report directly to the Chair for direction.
Finance
The Finance Committee is responsible for preparing the Chapter’s annual budget, the annual audit of the Chapter’s financial records, and reviewing budget and current expenditures. This committee normally meets twice a year.
Newsletter Editor
The Newsletter Editor is responsible for publishing the Chapter’s newsletter. This committee is a monthly commitment. The newsletter can be published on a monthly or bi-monthly basis.
Scholarship
The Scholarship Committee is responsible for putting scholarship applications together to distribute to high schools and junior colleges, reviewing the applications and deciding on the collegiate and trades scholarship recipients. This committee normally meets two to three times a year. Scholarships are given out at the Anniversary/Executive Night in April.
WIC Week
Women in Construction (WIC) Week Committee is responsible for coordinating and planning events during the annual Women in Construction Week, which promotes construction awareness for women. This committee normally meets multiple times a year. Projects during WIC week may coincide with other committees’ projects.
