About Us
The NAWIC San Diego Chapter, chartered on April 30, 1959, is very active and involved in the construction industry and the community.
Each year the chapter participates in a variety of events including educational seminars, conferences, joint meetings with other San Diego professional organizations, charitable events and Women in Construction (WIC) Week. We also work with the Future Construction Leaders Foundation to host the following programs designed to encourage students to consider careers in construction:
Block Kids: Construction awareness program for children in grades K thru 6
Camp NAWIC: A week-long program designed to mentor girls in grades 8-12 interested in learning more about the construction industry
Design Drafting Competition: Computer Aided Design (CAD) competition for high school and college students
College and trade scholarships

How NAWIC got its start.
The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) originally began as Women in Construction of Fort Worth, Texas. Sixteen women working in the construction industry founded it in 1953. Knowing that women represented only a small fraction of the construction industry, the founders organized NAWIC to create a support network. Women in Construction of Fort Worth was so successful that it gained its national charter in 1955 and became the National Association of Women in Construction. Today, NAWIC provides its members with opportunities for professional development, education, networking, leadership training, public service, and more. Learn more at https://www.nawic.org/.
